What to expect

Classes are small enough to ensure they can be managed correctly and will suit most people but they can also be taken as individual one to one’s.

They are led by Beth with clear demonstration at a pace that everyone can keep up with. Exercises are staged and progressive, as a result are suitable for beginners and the more experienced client. Pilates teaching takes a hands on approach using verbal and tactile cues to enable clients to practice pilates safely and effectively.

Upon booking a place you will need to complete an Enrolment form which will enable us to assess, in confidence which classes will suit your needs and requirements.

What is Pilates?

The Body control method is based on the work of Joseph Pilates who began to develop his method around the time of the First World War before opening a studio in New York in the 1920’s.

Pilates developed his system by taking principles from Yoga, Martial Arts, Boxing and Weight Lifting and selecting the best of these to improve the body. He developed a system of exercises which were intended to strengthen the human mind and body.

The Pilates philosophy is that control of the mind is required for control of the body. It is  about quality not quantity or load of movements – using the correct muscles at the correct time to produce real results in suppleness, muscular power, endurance and good posture; it is through this that Pilates can help to alleviate pain.

Why Pilates

Pilates is a controlled and specific form of exercise and body conditioning that targets muscles with precision giving you a leaner, stronger, more toned and flexible body. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises. It is remarkably effective and medically approved.

Pilates exercises target not just our stronger muscles, but also the weaker ones too. The result is a properly balanced body, with better joint mobility, toned muscles and a good, natural posture. Your body awareness is heightened by bringing together mind and body. It teaches you to be in control of your body allowing you to handle stress more effectively and achieve relaxation more easily.

For males and females of all ages. Pilates is great for rehabilitation, daily fitness regimes and prevention of injury. No basic knowledge or fitness is required in order to begin Pilates classes.
